medical coding billing

Medical coding is the process of translating written descriptions of diagnoses and procedures into codes that can be easily processed and reviewed by insurance companies. The two main coding systems used in medical billing are Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes and International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes. In the case of a tonsillectomy, for instance, a corresponding CPT code would be utilized to appropriately bill the insurance company for the services provided. The usage of accurate, thorough, and particular codes is then verified by cross-checking. Medical personnel identify and name medical diagnoses, procedures, and treatments using coding, a global language.
